Hello! I’m Rachel, an emerging children's writer and winner of the Hachette Children's Novel Award.

Supported by Arts Council England, I write stories and non-fiction for children and young people. I love writing in response to the world we live in.

MY WRITING

Works In Progress

A number of notebooks stacked in a pile on a wooden surface.
The Mystery

My contemporary mystery novel for 9 – 12-year-olds won the Hachette Children’s Novel Award 2023 at the Northern Writers’ Awards.

A brown table with a number of items on it - a mug of coffee on a coaster, notebooks, a phone and pen. There is a laptop with a black screen in the centre of the photo and a person's arms are visible typing on the laptop. Their skin is white and they are wearing a dark pink outfit.
The Non-Fiction

My non-fiction proposal is for children aged 9 – 12, and tells the story of key figures in the history of technology.

A number of colourful books, vertically stacked on a wooden surface. The books are all diaries, including diaries from the Princess Diaries, Lottie Brooks, Adrian Mole, Bridget Jones and Georgia Nicholson series.
The Diary

My latest writing project is a diary-based novel for early teens, because I love reading diaries like Adrian Mole, Wimpy Kid and Bridget Jones.

MY STORY

About Me

My name is Rachel and I’m a writer based in the North East of England. I’m an award-winning children’s novelist, and my writing is supported by Arts Council England.

I’ve always loved books, and after years of doing bookish things in and out of work, I decided to have another go at writing some of my own. I like writing contemporary stories for children and young people, and non-fiction which explores technology and culture.
