Founding a Community Interest Company
Development and Leadership
2022 - Present
Coming out of the pandemic, I began conversations about how to connect women and non-binary people working in technology in the North East, and the idea of a regional network was born. With other dedicated volunteers, in 2022 we established first an online community, and then we started regular in-person events.
We now have over 1000 community members. We’ve delivered seven fully-booked network events in Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham, working with sponsors including Aspire Technology Solutions, Credera UK, Marra, Womble Bond Dickenson and Gateshead College. And our work has been covered widely by the media, including Dynamo North East, Bdaily, UKTN and High Life North.
Fast forward to 2024, and based on this amazing growth and the clear demand for this network, we realised we needed to work towards ensure Women in Tech North East’s sustainability. Transitioning from a voluntary organisation, in Spring 2024 we became a Community Interest Company and secured our first start up funding. We’re now on an exciting journey to futureproof our work and make more of an impact, and Women in Tech North East is becoming my first freelance client.
